How We’re Shopping For Back to School | Richmond Moms

This year, the “back-to-school” transition feels a little different. Along with pencils and notebooks, some of us are adding masks to backpacks. Maybe we’re prepping to homeschool or do virtual school, with mom as teacher. Others are dividing into pods with friends. Some are heading back to the classroom, and others are doing hybrid. But even though we might be six feet apart, we are coming together to go “back to school” and part of that is building our kids’ (and our own) excitement.

That’s why we’re still shopping for new clothes, as well as supplies. Choosing a few new outfits together with our kids is a tradition that helps them look forward to a new year, and we can all use a little more of that, right? On that note, we’re happy to share the latest looks and classic pieces from our partner Joules, a British brand known for their bright, durable, and functional clothing that helps kids have fun, no matter the weather. Here’s a bit more about how we’re shopping for back-to-school this year:

We’re Focusing on Functional, Versatile Clothes

Our plan is to choose pieces that help us be flexible with whatever 2020 throws at us next! With more outdoor time planned, pieces like the ones from Joules’ rainwear collection will help kids play longer in the fresh air, even if Mother Nature isn’t cooperating. Their line includes fun, bright colors and patterns and classic pieces that will be instant-hand-me-downs.

We’re Investing in Clothes that will Last

Speaking of hand-me-downs…is there anyone out there that doesn’t love a good one? Save time on shopping, conserve money, and prevent more clothing from ending up in a landfill—they’re a no-brainer for moms. Joules clothing is known for lasting through families (and then friends).

We’re Shopping at Local Stores

This year has been hard on small local businesses. So when we can, we’re trying to shop from our favorites (both online and in person). Click here to find out where to buy Joules in your area, including at many small neighborhood stores.

We’re Focusing On Bright Accents

We want this year to be as fun as possible. And that means finding joy wherever we can find it—including versatile clothing in happy patterns and hues that make us smile. These Roll Up Rain Boots have the cutest sea monster pattern. And we love the rainbow details on this Lauren Chambray Jumpsuit. Even girls who prefer a more classic look will love the little pops of color on the Cicely Utility Jacket.

Happy back-to-school, moms. Here’s to a joyful and healthy year!
