Top 10 Family Vacations Ideas for 2022!

Traveling as a family is one of the most fun and enriching things you can do with your children. From beach vacations to cultural journeys to rustic adventures, there are so many wonderful options for every interest and budget. As your kids go from toddlers to teenagers, your trips will evolve as well. With so many families traveling for the first time in a few years, and making up for that time at home with some special trips, we asked Valerie Wilson Travel, (a member of the Virtuoso premier luxury and experiential travel network) to share their shortlist of travel ideas they recommend for families.  Happy travels and here’s to more adventures in 2022 and beyond!

Galapagos Islands

BUCKET LIST ADVENTURES

Post-COVID, safaris are at the top of many people’s bucket lists. Head to East Africa, Kenya (shown at top) or Tanzania for a multi-generational vacation, with grandparents and kids as young as 8 or 9. The Galapagos Islands are really a year round destination; being so close the equator, the weather is always great. Best for kids over 6, and when you can take your time. Top  months are between December and June. Christmas vacation 2022?!

EUROPE

Europe is always a memorable trip in both summer and winter. Depending on where you go, flights aren’t super long, and there is the ultimate mix of culture, beaches, food and more. Rent a villa in Italy and eat the best pizza in the world (or head to the coast for the ultimate beach vacation). Visit Iceland, where the great outdoors make for a perfect teenage adventure. Ski Austria which has some of the best ski schools in the world, even for younger kids.

Como Parrot Cay

BEACH TRIPS

Hawaii (Maui or the Big Island, and consider combining at least two islands) are an ideal spring break trip, as is the Caribbean/Turks & Caicos (try Grace Bay or Parrot Cay).

US SKI DESTINATIONS

There’s a reason skiing is such a popular option for families. Tire kids out on the slopes before heading to apres ski scenes at full service resorts like Vail or Deer Valley/Park City. Valerie Wilson recommends for February or March breaks.

GRAND CANYON

The Grand Canyon is a perennial summer fave; slightly older kids will love this active adventure trip (think: rafting, biking, hiking). Road trips are another amazing option for summer, including to Maine, Vermont, California and Arizona.
