Spring Must Haves - Richmond Moms

Anyone else *more* than ready to swap winter coats and sweaters for spring dresses and tops? We asked designer Katie Fong Biglin, for her go-to picks for the season. All of them are mom-friendly (read: easy to style) and many of them are perfect for pregnancy and post-partum, as Katie is expecting her second little one soon!

What fashion trends are you loving for Spring 2022?

For weddings and special events, I am loving flowy silhouettes that allow you to eat and drink whatever you want!  For everyday casual attire, I am still loving classic effortless styles – clean lines, stripes (think white, navy, tans and camels). I am also loving the touch of bohemian in everyday dressing… layered gold jewelry, dramatic sleeves, soft floral prints to compliment a more classic look.

How do you typically update your wardrobe every Spring?

The first thing I do is a major closet clean out. If I didn’t wear an item last season, I consign or donate it. Every Spring, I usually buy and make a few flowy, easy tops and same with dresses. Lately, printed silks and cottons have been very popular, as well as stripes (which in my opinion have always been in style and will continue to be!). I’m also guilty of making and buying white silk and cotton blouses constantly…They are a staple in my wardrobe and literally go with anything. My favorite white top in my Collection is our Annabelle Top in white silk charmeuse. Other brands I go to for cotton white tops include Nili Lotan, J. McLaughlin, Hartford and Zara.

If someone wants to invest in one piece this season, what should it be?

Really great flat shoes! I love a classic Chanel ballet flat or Margaux flat (either the Ballet Mule or the Demi Flat). They will go with everything from your denim to your dresses. Your cost-per-wear would be worth every penny since there are so many ways to style them.

What are your best tips/go-to pieces for post-partum fashion?

Post-partum fashion should be two things: easy and comfortable. It’s a plus if it’s not a maternity piece that can be worn in the future! I personally lived in loose blouses and dresses that were nursing friendly. I just purchased this Nili Lotan blouse  and I love that it works for me now, post-partum and in the future. Same goes for this Faherty Dress with front buttons that I purchased locally! I love that I’ll be able to wear both of these and not even have to worry about hair/make up and still feel put together.

Of course, you’ll need lots of cozy pieces for all those morning snuggles with your little babe! I stocked up on Vuori joggers and zip ups from Threads & Treads (also available online). These and a great nursing bra from Blanqi or Kindred Bravely and you’re all set!  I also have my eye on this set from Varley…

What are your 5-7 must-have pieces for Spring 2022?

This versatile leather and linen clutch pictured in the collage (available at Katie Fong the Boutique, starting next week!). I love how easy this piece is – you can toss it in your tote to organize, or you can use it as a clutch for a lunch or dinner out! I love it’s oversize shape and classic style.

A striped sweater that can be worn from the spring to summer nights and into the early Fall. La Ligne has the yummiest striped sweaters – I am wearing this one and have my eye on this one! Banana Republic just came out with this neutral striped sweater that I love too.

I will FOREVER love my skinny jeans, but I have found myself constantly gravitating towards a great cropped flare jean. Mother makes my favorite cut: The Insider Crop. I can’t wait to get back in them post baby!

For a little boho-vibe, dangly gold earrings are a must! I’m wearing these Gas Bijoux earrings but also love these chandelier earrings by Asha (available locally!)

Chain link bracelets are another classic that I can’t get enough of. I have several by local designer Andrea Del Bello, but I particularly love this Bike Chain Link Bracelet (also available at my Boutique), and have gifted it to many friends!

A dress with a statement sleeve! I just happened to stumble across this striped one from Banana Republic, and thought it would pair so well with a neutral sandal for daytime or a wedge for date night.
